Liberty North Port Concrete

Concrete contractor in Punta Gorda, FL - driveways and patios that stay level

Liberty North Port Concrete is a concrete contractor based in North Port that builds driveways, patios, pool decks, slabs and walls for homes and property owners in Punta Gorda, FL, with the owner on site.

A gray stamped-concrete sidewalk forms a circular ring around a grass island, with paths extending toward a house.

I started Liberty North Port Concrete in North Port after learning the trade on other crews, and our own crew now pours driveways, patios, pool decks, slabs, walls and footings for homeowners and property owners in Punta Gorda and the cities around it. Most of what we do is flatwork, the flat slabs you walk and drive on, and we build it to stay level and shed water.

  • Ground and drainage checked first
  • Owner on site through the pour
  • Final walk-through with you

Homes and slabs we work on in Punta Gorda

When a driveway in Punta Gorda has cracked or sunk at one corner, or water pools on a patio right next to the house, the cause is usually under the slab, not in it. That's why I look at what the old concrete was sitting on and where the water runs before I talk about anything new.

The base is the part nobody sees once we pour, so it's the first thing people want to cut from a budget. I'd keep the base and simplify the finish, because a plain broom finish, the light texture that keeps feet from slipping, on a subgrade we've dug out and packed will outlast a fancy surface laid on loose dirt.

Concrete work we do in Punta Gorda

Pick the job you have in mind to see how we handle it, from new driveways and patios to footings, foundation raising and cutting at homes and properties in Punta Gorda.

  • Concrete driveway building

A new driveway built on a dug-out, packed base and sloped so rain runs off toward the street.

  • Concrete patio construction

Where a patio sits against the house, we pitch it away from the walls so water can't collect there.

  • Stamped concrete services

Stamped patterns pressed into fresh concrete, for a patio or walk that looks like stone or brick.

  • Concrete sidewalk building

Walks from the driveway to the door, with control joints cut so any cracking runs in a straight line.

  • Garage floor concrete

A garage slab poured to carry a car's weight, replacing a floor that has cracked, sunk or gone dusty.

  • Decorative concrete

Color, exposed stone and other finishes for flatwork you want to look like more than plain gray.

  • Concrete retaining walls

If a yard slopes down toward the house or a slab, a poured wall holds the soil back.

  • Concrete floor installation

Interior concrete floors for additions, workshops and outbuildings, set level and finished for how the room gets used.

  • Concrete pool decks

Pool decks with a textured finish for wet feet, sloped so splash water drains off the deck.

  • Concrete steps construction

Front and back steps poured with even heights, so nobody misjudges a step on the way in.

  • Slab foundation building

A slab foundation for a new home, garage or addition, with rebar, the steel inside that holds it together.

  • Foundation installation

Foundation work for new structures, starting from footings sized to what the building has to carry.

  • Concrete parking lot building

Parking areas for property owners, built thicker where trucks turn and graded so water doesn't stand.

  • Concrete footings

Footings under walls, porches, columns and additions, dug and poured before anything goes on top of them.

  • Foundation raising

When a slab or foundation has settled, we look at why before raising it back toward level.

  • Concrete cutting

Clean saw cuts for openings, removals and repairs, so the concrete that stays isn't cracked by hammering.

Serving Punta Gorda from North Port

We're based in North Port and work in the cities around it, from Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte up through Venice, with our own crew on every job. To set up a visit, call (941) 240-9048 any day between 8 AM and 9 PM, or send your address and a few lines about the job through the form.

Before you plan concrete work in Punta Gorda

The city's building office at City Hall Annex, 941-575-3324, issues some permits over the counter, but the ones it lists are air conditioning change-outs, water heaters and re-pipes, not concrete. So we check with that office before every job, and when a permit is needed we pull it in our name and set up the inspections.

The price turns on what has to come out, how much base we dig and pack, how thick the slab is and the finish, while the schedule turns on the weather, any permit review and curing, the days new concrete needs to harden before use. I put all of it in your written estimate.

  • Where water runs off your lot now, and where it should go.
  • Whether the old slab comes out, or the new one goes beside it.
  • What the concrete has to carry, from foot traffic to a loaded truck.

How a Punta Gorda job runs

  1. Site visit

When you call, we set a time for me to come out, and I look at the ground, the drainage and what the concrete has to carry.

  2. Written estimate and permit

I send a written estimate and answer your questions, and if a permit is needed we apply, which the city says it reviews within 48 working hours for homes.

  3. Pour and walk-through

I'm on site with our crew from setting the forms to the finish, and when we're done we walk the work with you and say when it's ready to use.

Questions about concrete work in Punta Gorda

Do I need a permit for a concrete driveway or patio in Punta Gorda?

That depends on the job, so we check the city's permit guide and its building office before we start. A Florida Senate summary describes a bill requiring local governments, outside flood hazard areas, to exempt some single-family work valued at $7,500 or less that isn't structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical or gas work. If yours may qualify, we help you put the request together.

Which building code does Punta Gorda use for concrete work?

Punta Gorda uses the Florida Building Code, including its residential and existing building volumes, and the city says it has no local amendments. That means there's no extra city layer on top of the state code, and where a permit is involved, the inspections check our work against it.

Does a concrete contractor need a business tax receipt to work in Punta Gorda?

Yes, anyone running a business in the city needs a Local Business Tax Receipt, and businesses regulated by a state or federal agency send copies of their licenses and pay $105 a year. The city says the receipt doesn't vouch for anyone's skill, so also ask whether a contractor has registered through the city's Certificate of Competency.

Will my new concrete driveway crack like the old one did?

It can still get small cracks, because concrete shrinks as it dries, but the aim is that they stay small, sit where we planned and the slab stays level. We dig out and pack the base, slope the slab away from the house, avoid pouring in midday heat and cut the joints on time.
